Big Brand Definition
We collaborated with CEO Mike Maser and key stakeholders in a series of workshops to capture the needs and core values of Big Sky Health. We mapped out the existing product lines to understand the relationship between them, distilling the needs and values of each into tangible design attributes through a series of collaborative workshops.
Blue Sky Logo Design
With values and attributes in hand, we began work on a logo design that would reflect the brand's "elevated wellness from a natural vantage point" ethos. Form and wordmark explorations adopted the conceptual ideas of elevation, upwards movement, vertical forms, pointed and natural geometry, stacked type, organic lines and more.
By starting broad and with a clear foundation, the Big Sky Health team was able to quickly guide our design process toward a select set of viable brandmarks that got everyone excited. Refining the brand point of view along the way helped us to objectively evaluate the brandmarks that best harmonized with the brand statement.
“Big Sky [, Montana] is our place of origin, but it also encompasses our entire reason for being. We are firm believers in addition through subtraction – a lighter, cleaner, more efficient way to achieve clarity with simplicity. In our natural mountain environment at seven thousand feet above sea level, we are able to reveal the invisible layers of nature by stripping away what is unnecessary. Big Sky Health rises above the horizon of health and wellness – expansive as the sky around Lone Peak.”
Our final brandmark was the culmination of a deeply collaborative design process, ongoing evaluation of creative in both physical and digital contexts, and careful consideration of material usage and visual scalability.
Identity System & Guidelines
With a brandmark and statement in place, we were able to provide a variety of color, typographic, and photographic treatment options with usage and brandmark integration guidelines for each. Each part of the identity inherited the qualities of the brandmark and statement to make a cohesive visual language.

A Responsive Web Presence
A new brand identity isn't worth much without a place to show it off. With Big Sky's help, we got to work on concepting, designing and implementing the brand's primary digital touchpoint: a website that communicates the brand identity and point of difference while also serving as a recruitment tool for the company's distributed team. Or, as the CEO put it, a website that "conveyed the WHY, not the WHAT."
Our web design met these goals, featuring a unique concept influenced by the newly established brand. From the summit of the Lone Peak landmark, users are guided on a journey down the mountain and into the Big Sky Health story: why it was created, what they stand for, and what it means to be a part of the team.
We detailed specifications for all page designs across several viewport sizes, and walked the client through all of the requirements we’d need to create a mobile first design, navigation, and functionality. With mobile browsers as a primary touchpoint, we optimized the design language, content, architecture, and interactions to adapt elegantly to small screen sizes, and used large desktop viewports to convey the vastness and tranquility of Lone Peak.
Before the build, we performed an audit of the brand's specific content management needs. We built a custom Webflow site and catered the CMS to manage products, employees, experts, investors, careers, press, and policies so they could quickly update, recruit, and even dynamically map their employees across the globe.
